Organizing White Men for Collective Liberation is made up of national operating working groups, men’s feminist groups, OWMCL local groups, Showing Up for Racial Justice chapters and affiliates, and individuals working with multi-racial and multi-gender organizing spaces led by Black, Indigenous and other People of Color, women, trans, and nonbinary folks. There are so many different ways to get involved in this work, so feel out what is best for you!
Our Join Now button will lead you to an EveryAction registration form so we can keep in contact about what is going on around the network. For more information about the different working groups, check out the descriptions of our working groups just below the buttons. The Events button will lead you to a page of our upcoming events.
Internal Liberation
We cultivate a community among white men* who wish to contribute to more life and cause less harm. Within this affinity space, we confront the ways our socialization has deadened and twisted us all, and practice new ways of being human together. This work leaves us feeling freer, more connected, and better resourced. We practice together, not only for the sake of our own humanity, but also to build our capacity to support the global struggle for racial and gender justice.
*We acknowledge that whiteness is a historical formation created to assert racial dominance. We further recognize that manhood is experienced in diverse and fluid ways. Whether queer or hetero, trans or cis or NB, you are invited to share your authentic self.
Reading Circle
Our reading circle gathers the second Monday of every month to discuss a book or set of articles and how they apply to our lives and work for collective liberation. In the past we have read bell hooks’ Feminism is for Everybody, Angela Davis’ Freedom is a Constant Struggle, My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem, Mediocre by Ijeoma Oluo, The Purpose of Power by Alicia Garza, Sara Ahmed’s article The Nonperformativity of Antiracism, Kindred by Octavia Butler, The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee, Loving by Sheryll Cashin, Becoming Abolitionists by Derecka Purnell, and The Will to Change by bell hooks, and Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon. We gather on the 2nd Monday of every month. Find registration information on our events page.
